Andre Ethier’s Recipe for the Playoffs

So most of you know that the Dodgerfan.net brothers are big fans of Andre Ethier.  Well, we wanted to make sure everyone was aware that Andre’s blog about LA restaurants (Dining with ‘Dre) is now also providing his insights on the playoffs.  ‘Dre’s been posting pretty regularly while the team’s been in Chicago, so here’s hoping this continues as the team continues to play.  Check out this excerpt:

Before every getaway game, Manny makes a dugout announcement:

“Let us have a happy flight,” he says, and that means we better win, because flights after a loss are no fun. He said it tonight just before the first inning and we’re going to have a happy flight home after beating the Cubs again. I’m sure guys will be giddy, because we’re going back to Cali with a chance to win this series.

We’re an excited team right now, but the clubhouse is probably a little quieter than it was last night. We still have to take care of business. We haven’t won anything yet. We’ve got a flight home and a long day tomorrow with a workout and the next game isn’t until Saturday night.

You had to like the way we won tonight. Zambrano stuck it to us in the first inning and the crowd was going absolutely wild and we bounced back and turned the tables in the second inning and completely took the crowd out of the game. It got silent again, like it did last night when James hit the grand slam.

And another thing you had to like was that second inning, we did it without Manny. We can’t expect him to do everything every game. The guys were picking each other up and making his job easier. That’s just the way we’ve been playing for the past month and it’s why we’re in the position we’re in.

And ‘Dre, like you, the Dodgerfan brothers also love a great slice of pizza!  For us it doesn’t get better than Tony’s Pizza in San Marino (billed as “the best pizza west of the Hudson River”).  It’s probably a little out of the way for you, but well worth a short side trip if you’re ever in Pasadena or bet on the ponies at Santa Anita.  I always remember Tony as a cantankerous SOB who ruled his pizza shop with an iron fist, but I hear things have settled down since his son Michael took the reins of the place.  If anyone goes to Tony’s let us know what you think!

    Chris, you are mistaken. Tony was always the “good cop” of Tony’s pizza. It was the nefarious gentleman known only as “Chief” that was the Gestapo of the restaurant.

    Chief was the one who could summarilly dismiss you from the restaurant for nothing more than an errant cuss word or for hitting the Street Fighter video game a bit too hard.

    Ahh, the memories…

    Ahh…that’s right, I forgot about Chief! His surly, disapproving scowl always seemed to be present, much like his delicious pizza!
