Mario Lopez & Other Celebrities to Welcome Dodgers Back to LA Next Week

Saved By the Bell

Celebrity Update:  “Extra” host Mario Lopez is throwing out the first pitch on Monday night before the Blue take on the New York Mets.  Call me crazy, but wouldn’t this be a WHOLE lot better if it was a “Saved By the Bell” pre-game reunion event?  I’m talking about the original series…not the two spin-offs: “The College Years” and “The New Class.”  Just imagine the entire gang from Bayside High in the house at Chavez Ravine, including Zach (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), A.C. (Mario Lopez), Kelly (Tiffani-Amber Thiessen), Jessie (Elizabeth Berkley), Screech (Dustin Diamond), Lisa (Lark Voorhies) and, of course, Mr. Belding (Dennis Haskins).  The excitement in the building would be tremendous and I bet “DodgerTalk” host (and Emmy-winning sitcom writer/director/producer extroardinaire) Ken Levine could have a field day with this.  According to Wikipedia, 2009 even happens to be the 20th anniversary of the show!  Come on Dr. Steinberg (Chief Marketing Officer for the Dodgers), you’ve got 72 hours to pull off the pop culture reunion of the year!  Ahh, to dare to dream…

Ok, back to “reality”:  On Tuesday night, Whitney Port from MTV’s “The Hills” and “The City” has the honor.  No word on whether or not Lauren, Lo, Audrina and Brody will be supporting their pal.  On a side note, I do appreciate the Dodgers scheduling Whitney for a game against the Mets, considering she’s currently living in New York filming her show.  She better not be rooting for the Mets!  More Port family trivia (courtesy of the Dodgers official media advisory):

“Whitney comes from a family of baseball players.  Herfather, Jeff Port, was drafted by the Dodgers in 1968.  Jeff was also a member of the 1970, 1971 and 1972 USC National Championship Baseball Teams.  Whitney’s brother, Ryan Port, who will catch the ceremonial first pitch, played on the 1998 USC National Championship Baseball Team.”

Matthew McConaughey will have the honors at the Ravine on Wednesday when he hosts 50 kids from his j.k. livin foundation (check it out, he really does have a foundation!).

Photos will be posted after each game…
