Tonight’s match-up of Brad Penny vs. Jake Peavy at the Ravine should be awesome. I love it when two of the top pitchers in the National League square off against each other. I’m sure the Dodgers aren’t that thrilled about seeing Peavy so soon, given that the Pad’s have notched W’s in his of his last six starts against LA (including his two-hit complete game on April 5). Penny probably hates facing San Diego too: according to ESPN, he’s 3-7 with a 5.63 ERA in 15 career starts.
Still, I can’t think of a better way for the team to get back on track than by providing a satisfying beat-down to those pesky Padres. And you KNOW there is going to be a ton of attention on Jake Peavy’s hand, looking for that “dirt-rosin” combination which sure did look a lot like pine tar. Now that we’re back home in Dodger Stadium, Joe Torre has the right to inspect the balls. Still, Peavy would be a complete moron to try anything tonight, and I expect him to come out with his hands freshly washed after every inning.
On a personal note, this will be the first game of the season for the DodgerFan.net crew! As some of you know, we were all set to attend the historic Coliseum game, but I managed to get in a car accident on the way to the game, so ended up being forced to watch the game on TV. Needless to say, I was VERY disappointed!
