Dodgers Getting the Band Back Together

Dodgers Sym-Phony Drum by mobo85.

Mota’s back, baby!  Guillermo (and Ned) must be hoping they can recapture lightning in the bottle.  As Ken Gurnick notes, when Mota was in LA he was sporting a 2.60 ERA and since that time he’s ballooned up to a 4.79 ERA.  All that said, I think coming home will be good for the kid (ok, good for the guy…at 35 he’s no kid!).  Mota’s logged a hell of a lot of frequent flyer mileage since leaving LA.  Just take a gander at the following (pulled from the official Dodgers press release on the signing):

“… he was traded to the Florida Marlins in July (of 2004) with Paul Lo Duca and Juan Encarnacion in exchange for Brad Penny, Hee-Seop Choi, and Bill Murphy.  After spending parts of two seasons with the Marlins, Mota was dealt again, this time with Josh Beckett to the Boston Red Sox for among others, Hanley Ramirez. Before Mota had settled in Boston , he was traded to Cleveland in January of 2006 and then shipped to the New York Mets that August.”

Sure, Mota stayed put with the Brewers last year, but a change of scenery could be what the guy needs.  And we certainly need the help!  Welcome back Guillermo Mota…now let’s bring back Manny!!
